February 2024 will debut the European AstroFest imaging competition, with prizes from Celestron up for grabs! There are three categories – under-18, Solar System and deep sky – and finalists will have their images displayed at AstroFest, where the winners will be announced during a presentation on stage.

Deep Sky

From stars and constellations to star clusters, nebulae and galaxies, this category is for the Universe beyond our Solar System.

The winner of best image in this category, as chosen by our panel of expert judges, will receive a CGL NexStar Evolution 8 Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope courtesy of our sponsors Celestron. The Sun, planets, the Moon and comets are all bonafide choices for images in this category.

The winner of best Solar System image, as chosen by our panel of expert judges, will receive a NexStar 8SE Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope courtesy of our sponsors Celestron.The NexStar 8SE is a classic 203mm (8-inch) computerised telescope sporting Celestron’s signature orange tube design on top of a fully automated Go-To mount with a database of 40,000 celestial objects. Under-18

Any object, be it planetary or deep sky, is fair game in the under-18s competition.

You just have to be under the age of 18 to enter (with the support of a responsible adult – see our competition rules). The best image in the under-18s cateogry, as chosen by our panel of expert judges, will receive a great combo-package of a CGL StarSense DX5 telescope and a NexImage 10 Solar System colour CCD camera for you to take your astrophotography skills to the next level! For more details about the DX5 visit Celestron’s website here, and go here for information about the NexImage CCD camera.
