Biography
Brendan Owens holds a BSc in Physics and Astronomy and an MSc in Science Communication, both from Dublin City University. Spending a decade at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, he has dedicated himself to igniting curiosity in astronomy and space science through various public and school engagement projects.
Throughout his career, Brendan has collaborated with community groups, schools, and informal learning organizations, as well as the broader public, delving into the intricacies of the Universe. His passion also encompasses themes such as breaking down stereotypes, promoting empowerment through lived experiences, and examining the vital role of science in society.
A pivotal phase of his career involved contributing to European Commission projects at the Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin. Currently, Brendan works at the Institute of Physics, actively supporting current and emerging physicists in public engagement, striving to cultivate a more inclusive physics community.
Brendan maintains a strong connection with the Royal Observatory Greenwich, serving as an Astronomer Emeritus there.
